Description
1927 STUTZ TYPE AA « COUPÉ ROADSTER » PAR PHILIPS
French title
Chassis n° R86715
Engine n° AA-C1-R86715
- 8-cylinders, overhead camshaft, double ignition!
- Ex-Serge Pozzoli collection
- Exceptional looks
“Stutz imposes itself on elite customers” pronounced the advertisements for the brand in France by the end of the 1920s. Indeed, the Type AA, also called “Vertical Eight” and offered from 1926 had nothing to do but be
the envy of the best European carmakers. Powered by a 4.7L overhead camshaft inline 8-cylinder engine with dual ignition, this automobile offered high performance and a relatively low center of gravity, as well as the hydraulic brakes provided security.
The car on offer was selected by Serge Pozzoli for his personal collection, both for its technical and aesthetic qualities, since it featured an elegant "Roadster Coupé" body by the American coachbuilder Philips. Purchased by Mr Thanry in 1994 during the Pozzoli auction, this Stutz then received a comprehensive restoration. The body was repainted in a burgundy shade, while the black, soft top was redone in beige canvas, and the black leather upholstery was restored in light brown leather. An amusing detail, the woodwork, which includes elements of marquetry depicting landscapes, has been preserved. The dashboard, which lacks a dial, still has the Fedco coded plate which confirms the chassis number, here the code is BW71H. The mechanicals also benefited from an overhaul at the same time and has just been restarted in 2021 after ten years of inactivity. After a general overhaul, this refined automobile, extremely rare in our regions, will not fail to arouse admiration as it passes and amuses the ultimate enthusiasts.
