The history of the Stanguellini brand began in 1936 from the passion of Francesco Stanguellini.

Stanguellini entered the production of its own models derived from Fiat and Maserati chassis with the 750, 1100, and 2800.

Stanguellini was right in the heart of Modena, in a small cluster of streets, while a few hundred meters away, Ferrari and Maserati were later rising to the stars. But, as they say, with great respect for each other.

In 1937, the first racing team was formed, which began a series of victories, culminating in first place in its class (50th overall) at the XII Mille Miglia in 1938 with a Stanguellini 750, bringing the team to international recognition.

After WWII, the Stanguellini cars were absolute winners.

Vittorio Stanguellini returned to racing with unchanged energy and got to work on the new series of 1100 Sport National, which were raced by several drivers at the 1947 Italian Championship.

During the season the 1100 Stanguellini obtained 10 overall and 37 class wins and Nuccio Bertone was one of these successful drivers.

But the meeting between Bertone and Stanguellini also led to a business agreement with the birth of a small series of a lightweight “4-seater Berlinetta Special” or “Sport”.

It was designed for Carrozzeria Bertone by Fabio Luigi Rapi (the same designer of the Fiat 8V).

Bertone bought the Fiat chassis, Stanguellini improved the engine in Modena and later Bertone made the body and fitted up the rest.

Bertone exhibited the first example at the 1947 Villa d’Este Concours and later at the 1947 Mostra della Carrozzeria Italiana.

The Berlinetta was produced between 1947 and 1954.

The Stanguellini 1100 made an indelible mark on the automotive landscape. This masterpiece introduced innovative design elements such as ponton sides, seamlessly flowing from the car’s nose to its rear end at ‘belt’ level.

Remarkably lightweight at a mere 725 kg, the Stanguellini 1100 Berlinetta’s exceptional performance capabilities translated into a string of victories, solidifying its status as a force to be reckoned with on the track.

As a testament to its enduring legacy, the Stanguellini 1100 Berlinetta remains a symbol of automotive excellence, revered for its blend of performance, innovation, and timeless design.

ABOUT THIS SPECIFIC EXAMPLE

According to researches by experts, this car was built in 1947 and owned by Carrozzeria Bertone till the 8th of January 1949.

At the 8th of January 1949 the Stanguellini was delivered to its first owner, Mr. Mario Mainetti, a gentleman in Turin.

The new Stanguellini was configured as it appears today, clothed with its elegant Berlinetta coachwork and finished in a Red color.

Subsequently it was sold in Florence the 26th of July 1950 to Mrs. Elide Cantini.

This specific example had competition life with the Driver Enrico Manzini.

In 1950 it drove two competitions: the Coppa della Toscana, ranking 7th in class and the Stella Alpina, ranking 5th.

In 1951 the Stanguellini participated in the important Coppa Intereuropa, ranking 11th place in class.

In the same year it raced the III Coppa della Toscana with Achille Pinto, ranking 2nd in class.

In 1952 the Stanguellini was raced at the Mille Miglia with Mr. Manzini as driver and Mr. Castagnoli as codriver.

We have evidence of other three races in 1952, with Manzini again at the wheel: the Firenze – Fiesole (1st in class), the Coppa della Toscana (13th in class) and the Coppa della Consuma (2nd in class).

The Stanguellini was acquired by a new owner the 13th of December 1952, Mr. Vittorio Zadotti and registered in Rome.

In the history file of the Stanguellini there is a beautiful picture dated February 1953 of the car with Vittorio Zadotti and his wife, in Piazza del Campidoglio in Rome.

A special feature of this car is that in 1954 the Ditta Fratelli Giannini in Rome gave the engine a tune-up, as confirmed by the mortgage indicated on the chronological documentation.

The car remained registered in the same Italian family until 2010 when it was acquired by a new Italian owner.

In his ownership it raced in 3 editions of the Mille Miglia: 2013, 2014 and 2019 and in a variety of other rallies as the Gran Premio Nuvolari, the Vernasca Silver Flag and the Franciacorta Historic.

This Stanguellini displays the Automotoclub Storico Italiano (ASI) Gold Plate on its grille. This gold plate is validated by former ASI President to the highest degree A, and it marks this Stanguellini as being as original as it was when manufactured.

The ASI Certificate of Identity is in Italy is the highest recognition that a classic car can receive.

Just recently it has been discovered the great Mille Miglia history associated with this fine example of Italian motoring excellence.

This specific Stanguellini has been in 2024 Certified in the Mille Miglia Registro confirming this car is indeed an original Mille Miglia Veteran car and has participated in the 1952 Mille Miglia.

This car certainly is a high performance car. Although the engine delivers 1100cc, the power to weight ratio is fantastic and the car drives fabulous and is fast. Very fast.

The handling is absolutely superb. Overall, this Stanguellini is a joy to drive, offering a thrilling driving experience to any enthusiast.

Every Stanguellini is nice to drive but this car has been very well maintained and every aspect of its operation has been carefully sorted to provide the utmost driving pleasure.
