Spyker has always been a brand that stands out boldly. Countless words have been dedicated to the sports car manufacturer – none of them describing the Zeewolde, Netherlands-based company as ordinary. Their larger-than-life reputation has always been fitting. A Formula One team that leads a Grand Prix during their only year on the grid? Spyker F1. A sports car racing team that carried the Dutch flag competing in blue ribband endurance racing? Spyker Squadron. Aircraft-inspired sports cars known the world over for their polarizing neoclassical design and exceptional performance? Spyker Automobielen.

While many may view a Spyker C8 as rolling automotive jewelry, Spyker's stated design principle, in part, states that "every part of the car, every detail must be genuine and have a proper function." While that may sound a bit like a certain company from Zuffenhausen, there are numerous parallels not least of which was the Spyker Squadron race program run in conjunction with the road-going design team. The C8 engineering package, meticulously designed from the ground up with an ultra-rigid space frame, is crafted using aluminum sheet and extrusions. The hand-crafted bodywork was formed by Coventry Prototype Panels in the U.K. and Karmann in Germany from aluminum sheets of outstanding durability and is almost as dent resistant as steel. Many of the exterior details, such as the wing mirrors, the beautiful air intakes and the wheels, are also hand-crafted from the 13th element. The car's streamlined floor section generates downforce, ensuring it remains firmly planted on the ground even at high speeds. Supporting these aerodynamic effects are visible features such as the front splitter plate and the rear diffuser, seamlessly integrated into the rear body section for enhanced performance.

While the Spyker C8's exterior initially draws attention, it is the interior that captivates most, showcasing Spyker's aviation heritage at its core. Upon entering the car, one is immediately struck by the dashboard and instrument panel, which exude a design reminiscent of airplane aesthetics, embellished with aluminum and leather trim. Behind the controls, drivers will discover the distinctive aluminum Aeroblade steering wheel, wrapped in luxurious Hulshof leather and accented with rivets along the rim, featuring two propellers. Another standout feature is the uniquely designed gear lever, crafted to emphasize the unconventional shift mechanism that enhances the car's distinctiveness.

Delivered to Spyker San Diego in March of 2005, this particular Spyker C8 was ordered in Jet Black paint over a Magnolia leather and is said to be just one of six so equipped. Furthermore, it is believed to be one of only four Spykers originally delivered to the U.S. in 2005. Like all 2005 C8 Spyders, it features a high level of standard equipment including an Audi-sourced mid-mounted 4.2-liter V8 producing 400 horsepower, an all-aluminum hardtop, electrically-operated scissor doors, Koni shock absorbers, and brakes from AP Racing. Optional extras for chassis 037 included quilted Magnolia leather seats, the Spyker propellor logo embossing on the seat headrests, and an electrical cutoff switch all for an additional $3,681, bringing the total for this Dutch masterpiece to a tick over $275,000. Since that time this C8 has added a mere 957 miles on the odometer at cataloging assuring a high degree of originality and a low amount of wear, yet most importantly it has not been neglected. Chassis 037's history file reveals the car visited Curated of Miami for just over $6,000 in servicing that included a fresh battery, new wheel caps, and a detail with aluminum polishing and a ceramic coating in preparation to show the car. In preparation for sale, the car visited Mike Ghaemi of WMS Automotive in July 2024 for a comprehensive engine-out major service that included replacement of all fluids and filters, along with a new timing belt, water pump, thermostat, pulleys, drive belt, and a fresh set of tires.

Offered with under 1,000 miles, this exceptionally rare hand-crafted sports car combines luxury and performance in an artful way that few have been able to match since. With performance pedigree, recent servicing, and a rare specification, this example is noted to retain its two pieces of fitted luggage, a nod to those who wish to fulfil the Spyker motto Nulla tenaci invia est via, Latin for "For the tenacious, no road is impassable."
