The Silver Dawn was the first Rolls Royce car designed and produced in its entirety by Rolls Royce Motors. Rolling chassis prior to the “ Silver Dawn” ( 1949) were shipped to independent coach builders to be bodied. They are the smallest Rolls Royce ever built and were called the “ sports saloon” due to their short wheelbase, low height and fast speed.
This particular car was delivered new in October 1952 to the well known collector Francis V Dupont of the Dupont chemical company in Delaware. He used it as his personal car – Chassis LSKE40 is often known as “ The Ex Dupont Car”. The second owner had the car for just over 40 years in California, before chassis LSKE40 made its way back to British shores.
