Description
"A term in both French and Italian for a coastal road, the name 'Corniche' was registered by Rolls-Royce in the 1930's yet was only designated to a production model in 1971, after which time the Mulliner Park Ward customisations to coupé and convertible Silver Shadow limousine took this name. The coachwork was designed by John Polwhele Blatchley and is characterised by the uplifted waistline above the rear wheel-arches. When launched in 1971, the Rolls-Royce Corniche Convertible was the most expensive British car on the market. The introduction of features such as rack-and-pinion steering, rubber bumpers and split-level air conditioning resulted in demarcation of the production as 'Series II' from 1977 onwards before the name changed to 'Corniche II' in 1986 for the US market following further modifications. The Corniche III was introduced at the 1989 Frankfurt Motor Show with new alloy wheels, color-coded bumpers, a more advanced suspension system, air bags and MK-Motronic fuel injections. Minor interior changes included a revised dashboard, centre console and seats.
This handsome Rolls-Royce is finished in Ivory with a tan Everflex roof and tan leather interior. Originally registered in New York by Carriage House Motor Cars Ltd. this Corniche still has its original handbooks. These exceedingly well-appointed cars are delightful to look at and even better to ride in. With sumptuous comfortable seating and ample walnut woodwork this exceptional car has only covered 43,204 miles from new and presents in unmarked condition. Powered by Rolls-Royces familiar 6.75 litre V8 engine the silky-smooth ride of this stylish convertible is synonymous with such a prestige marque. Supplied with a V5C registration document this lefthand drive Corniche III offers prestige and comfort in abundance. The health and safety of both our customers and team remains the utmost priority, we are therefore operating to Government guidelines throughout viewing and auction day."
