The convertible version of the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow was sold under the Corniche name from 1971. This now legendary model marked a true revolution at the time, signalling the start of a new era for the British car maker: it was the first unitary-bodied Rolls-Royce and had independent self-levelling suspension and disc brakes. The Corniche convertible was built and assembled by hand at the Mulliner Park Ward coachworks in London, which specialised in converting custom-made bodies. Altogether, some 5600 cars were produced. The symbol of an entire era, its place now assured in the hall of fame for classic cars, the Corniche is probably one of Rolls-Royce’s masterpieces.

The Corniche we are presenting today was delivered new to its first owner in Monaco, a Japanese shipowner who lived in the Principality. It was a right-hand drive model, but originally registered in France. When the owner learned that his butler was enjoying the car in his absence, he decided to sell it. Its second owner, also resident in Monaco, acquired it in 1999, followed by it current owner, who bought it at auction in Paris in 2015. The combination of colours is unusual and looks magnificent on this model. The British Racing Green paintwork and beige leather interior with green piping to match the body are in excellent condition. It is a three-owner car, always driven regularly and with 69,000 km (43,000 miles) recorded.
The Corniche is in strictly original condition and presents extremely well. The hood is in excellent condition and operates perfectly; the matching hood cover is supplied. The paintwork is original and in fine condition. We noted that the car was in good mechanical order and that the automatic transmission was buttery-smooth. The original key is still with the car.
With a current safety inspection certificate and French registration papers, this elegant convertible deserves its place in the collection of a discerning enthusiast.
