With more than 8 million built, the Renault 4 has been part of our automotive imagination for more than 60 years! Among the different versions offered, the Plein Air (meaning 'Open Air') is certainly one of the most attractive.
Presented in May 1968, the Renault 4 Plein Air was a charming little beach car. With no doors and a hood for a roof, the Plein Air was built by Sinpar, well known for its four-wheel drive conversions of many Renaults. Although it was the perfect symbol of this carefree time, the Plein Air did not catch on and very few cars were built.
This example, previously part of the collection of Renault's UK subsidiary, joined the Renault Classic Collection in 2021. An extremely rare right-hand drive version, it has 47,749 miles on the clock and is fitted with its side panels. In very good overall condition, this Plein Air has undergone a restoration keeping its charming original patina. It represents a rare opportunity to relive an era when, to quote the slogan of May 68, "Under the paving stones, [you could find] the beach" …
