Description
The 944 was born as an evolution of the 924 and filled the gap between the 924 and the 911 SC in terms of power and cost. It is true that the bodywork of the 944 was based on that of the 924, but it had a much more pronounced shape. In addition, a 2.5-litre in-line four-cylinder engine developed independently by Porsche (derived from the eight-cylinder in the 928) was used in the 944. Its four-cylinder, in the standard aspirated version, developed 163 hp with the specification for the European market, where it was sold without a catalytic converter. This made the 944 a 'real' Porsche in the eyes of customers. This model was also produced by Audi in Neckarsulm. A front spoiler in the colour of the bodywork with square rubber bumpers, as well as significantly wider and slightly squared-off mudguards visibly distinguished the 944 from the 924. Of its 'smaller' sister it retained the transaxle gearbox, i.e. mounted at the bottom of the drive shaft, together with the differential, to improve weight distribution.
The stunning car we offer here is in fair body condition, the mechanics having been completely overhauled about two years ago. This Porsche is fitted with a sports exhaust that gives it a very involving sound, but it will be delivered with a new exhaust, still packed, to restore the original condition. The paintwork has some imperfections caused by an imprecise hand but is basically in good order, and free of rust, a perfect base for immediate use and suitable for conservative restoration with little effort.
Service and maintenance booklet available, full on-board equipment with tool bag, jack and spare inflatable/folding wheel and the unobtainable original compressor. Although the mounted ones still have plenty of tread, the sale also includes a complete set of new spare tyres. This example is also accompanied by a number of original advertising brochures that were distributed in Porsche dealerships as a presentation of the new model, dating back to when the car was bought new, and an additional Porsche Technical Service manual explaining how to intervene in the workshop.
