Produced by the German car manufacturer Porsche from 1976 until 1985, initially developed for Volkswagen as a successor model to the 914 and then produced completely independently, the Porsche 924 was the first to be produced with a liquid-cooled front engine and the refined transaxle transmission layout, despite the fact that the impressive 928 (featuring the same technical solutions) had been designed earlier (1971). The new base model was built by Audi in Neckarsulm. Good aerodynamics were given a prominent role in the bodywork configuration of the 924. The flat bonnet and retractable headlights contributed to this in particular. From 1983 onwards, a black rear spoiler led to a further improvement in the Cx coefficient. The 125 hp power unit was taken from the Audi 100 and suitably modified by Porsche. The world's critics were enthusiastic about the new model, which presented an ease of driving totally unknown to previous Porsche models. The effectiveness of the chassis, however, immediately highlighted a certain lack of horsepower, which provoked some criticism from enthusiasts.
After the experience gained with the 911 Turbo, Porsche brought out the turbocharged version of the 924 in 1977, often identified by its internal design code 931. A KKK turbine (without intercooler) was fitted to the engine, the head was modified and many other engine details were changed to ensure power and reliability (e.g. the different shape of the piston crown raised the compression ratio to 7.5:1). The result is a power output of 170 hp (DIN) and a drive torque of no less than 25 kgm, guaranteeing thoroughbred sports car performance (225 km/h, 0-100 km/h in just over 7 seconds). In addition, the braking system was completely revised (self-ventilating discs on all four wheels) and the set-up was partly revised (specific shock absorbers and anti-roll bars), a hydraulically operated clutch was introduced, and the gearbox remained the 5-speed ZF 'dogleg' type 016/Z throughout the production run.
The wonderful car we are proposing is in excellent condition, both in terms of preservation and mechanical efficiency, belonging to the first series produced, with a 170 hp engine (therefore without the problematic electronic crankshaft position sensor, which is prone to many failures and is no longer available as a spare part). Work documentation present with various invoices and reports of work carried out. Received a complete service 100 km ago; double keys, owner's manual/service booklet available, complete on-board equipment with tool bag, jack and inflatable/refillable spare wheel including original compressor. Equipped with ASI certificate of registration as vehicle of historic interest.
