"The original Porsche 911 was introduced in autumn 1963 and manufactured until 1989. It was succeeded by a modified version, internally referred to as Porsche 964, but still sold as Porsche 911, as are current models. Mechanically, the 911 was notable for being rear engine and air-cooled and, from its inception, the 911 was modified both by private teams and the factory itself for racing, rallying and other types of competition. The original 911 series is often cited as the most successful competition car ever, especially when its variations are included; namely the powerful 911 derived 935 which won the 24 Hours Le Mans and other major sports car races outright against prototypes. Of all the derivatives and years in which the 911 was produced the 1973 Targa was perhaps one of the most sought-after, the ’73 had the narrower bumpers which are especially popular and deemed more attractive on the early 911 with a style that modern ‘restomod’ or backdated styles such as Singer replicate allowing top down motoring with the glass back window which the model of course didn’t start out with.
First registered in August 1973, this 2.4 litre F-Series 911 Targa was delivered to the UK from new and has been comprehensively restored and transformed by Rindt Vehicle Design. In single ownership between 1985 and 2020, as detailed in the history file. Finished in Irish Green, full details of the bodywork and mechanical attention carried out include complete strip, prep and bare-metal repaint in Irish Green, new nearside floor pan and nearside ‘kidney bowl’, full interior strip and re-finish in Tartan, new dash trim, new inner and outer sill protectors, fresh chrome bumper mouldings, new front and rear windscreen rubbers, sun visors, new horns and fitment of new Targa roof seals. The engine was removed from the vehicle, stripped, serviced and fitted with new upper and lower cam covers, new oil pipes where required and repairs to the wiring loom undertaken. This is now a beautifully restored example of a period air-cooled Porsche that attracts attention wherever it goes, viewing is highly recommended."
