Description

The Porsche 911, “They are unique, they have character… and will admirably serve the man who is sensitive to them and with equal facility betray the one who isn’t” – Car & Driver 1972 February Issue - this undissolving Porsche nature has been like this from the beginning thus building legions of breathless enthusiasts ever since.
First produced in 1964 all models produced up to 1973 have become THE most desirable Porsche’s on the market as they feature the original Porsche 911 design, serving as inspiration for all 911s in the years that followed.

The 911 model E and S are considered the most sought-after due to their highly-praised MFI (Mechanical-Fuel Injection) 2. 4 L Flat-Six which produces 165 HP to its rear wheels.

Available here today is an ultra-rare and ‘Last of’ the small bumper 911’s, a 1973 Porsche 911 E Targa Sportomatic; Australian delivered, has been the subject of a no expense-spared restoration over the course of approximately 3 years.

This superb sports classic was sold new in September of 1973 by Scuderia Veloce Motors, Sydney in its current original colour combination of Sepia Brown over Biscuit Leatherette with Houndstooth inserts and was 1 of just 20 Type ‘E’ Targa’s to arrive on Australian Shores.

Its restoration was commissioned in 2015 and completed in October 2018. Completed by Porsche Restoration Specialist, the 911 underwent a back to bare-metal restoration on the body bringing the vehicle back to its original colour of Sepia Brown.

All trim pieces were either replaced or neatly refurbished from bumper seals to new window felt to the correct contrast Gold badging across the deck lid, both front and rear suspension was also rebuilt as well as the steering rack, brakes, a full transmission overhaul and ground up engine rebuild.

The result has produced an unrivalled 911 E that looks as if it had just driven off the factory floor. The drive is incredibly tight, the Sportomatic transmission is effortlessly responsive, the MFI 2. 4 engine provides obscene amount of power whilst the whirring and purring air-cooled soundtrack reverbs behind the driver’s ears provides a quintessential classic Porsche experience.

Accompanying the vehicle is the original owner’s manual, service booklet, complete set of tools and receipts for the entire restoration something rarely seen with early 911’s.

With its super retro and ultra-cool colour combination, this beautifully designed 911 Targa is an absolutely gem and provides the ideal blend of classic performance, aesthetics, immaculate condition, rarity and provenance.

This turn-key ’73 911 E Targa offers a rare opportunity to invest and enjoy a classic 911 and would suit the most discerning collector or enthusiast, a viewing is a must.
