Description
The 911S is one of the ultimate classic 911s, the first generation of Porsche's iconic car, which was originally meant to be called 901. These classic 911s are now highly sought after and are often known as the “narrow 911”. This 1972 model was at the top of the lineup and offered greater performance and driving enjoyment.
The vivid orange body colour is striking, and the interior, with its original leather seats, has been well cared for. The engine is in good condition and it even has the original stickers in the engine bay.
A peculiar feature of these cars is the location of the oil tank and its oil filler which is located in the rear-right of the car. Porsche did this to improve weight distribution for better handling. However in 1973 the external oil filler location was reverted to its original location for convenience. This car has a 2.4-litre flat-6, the largest engine fitted to the 911S and produces 190hp. This engine combined with the lightweight body of the classic 911 means that this car offers one of the purest and perhaps enjoyable 911 driving experience.
Of course its other appeal is the design, the original 911 look. This model is famous for featuring in the 1971 film “Le Mans” which starred Steve McQueen. It was driven by him and it was the character’s favourite car. The car featured on set would eventually be owned by McQueen himself and in 2011 it sold for over €1 million.
This 911S has not only the nimbleness that modern cars have lost, which contributes to handling that cannot be matched today, but it also combines this with classic lines that so many enthusiasts love. This is one of the most desirable air-cooled 911s available.
