The Porsche 911 underwent significant evolution from its introduction in 1964 to the unveiling of the 911 S for the 1967 model year, featuring the first iteration of the famous Fuchs alloy wheels with an engine boasting 160 horsepower - up 30 over the standard model. Noteworthy advancements continued with a lengthened wheelbase in 1969, enhancing handling, followed by a displacement increase to 2.2-liters in 1970, equipped with Bosch mechanical fuel injection, resulting in a power output of 180 horsepower in the S models. Complimenting the increased power, the S models boasted an aluminum engine cover, improved light-alloy brakes, offering an exemplary driving platform for spirited high-speed driving.
The 1970 Porsche 911 S Coupe on offer was delivered new as a U.S.-Market example through Chicago, Illinois finished in Signal Orange over a Black leather interior. The car is then believed to have remained in the United States until it was imported to Germany in the early 1980s. From there, the car was the subject of a complete restoration under the direction of the current owner.
Starting with the bodywork, it was stripped to bare metal before being returned to its current lustrous condition in the period-correct shade of Light Yellow (Hellgelb) with Rest of World (RoW) lighting. A restored and correct type "911/02" 911 S-spec engine was installed along with a five-speed manual transmission for improved high-speed touring capabilities. The original matching numbers, engine case, and transmission will accompany the sale of this 911. To match the drivetrain, the suspension and brakes were overhauled with the same attention to detail. The car's interior received a pair of Recaro sports seats upholstered with Black leather with corduroy seat inserts. Completing the car's look, its set of iconic Fuchs alloy wheels were refinished and shod with Continental tires.
As presented, the car remains in excellent, as-restored condition, having only covered some 150 kilometers at the time of listing. Thanks to an impressive restoration to exterior RoW-specifications and the addition of Recaro sport seats the car would be a fantastic addition for anyone seeking a stellar early 911 S in a rare shade to drive and enjoy.
