Description
The 901, the first generation of the most legendary of sports cars, appeared in 1964. It was the purest incarnation of the 911: a minimalist body, an elegant, harmonious profile, a 'rucksack' engine with a modest but sufficient 2-liter air-cooled capacity, and a 5-speed manual gearbox - a recipe for happiness. As today, different versions have been developed: S, RS... We are offering for sale this sought-after 911 L 'short chassis'.
Put on the road in the United States on 1 January 1968, then imported in 2006, this accident-free car has 93,817 miles on the clock. Our car was originally imported into the United States and is matching numbers with a Porsche certificate. The car has been mechanically restored (new engine, gearbox rebuilt, chassis protected, brakes and running gear completely rebuilt). Part of the history is available, showing a period of its life spent in Germany, with several invoices made within the Porsche network. Technical checks, Histovec and CarVertical reports are also available.
ENGINE AND GEARBOX
The flat 6, with a displacement more than adequate for such a light 2-liter car, develops 110 bhp. Following a total rebuild of the engine at the Porsche RSR Vintage specialist in St Jean en Royans, the engine starts without any problems, oil leaks or suspicious fumes. During the drive, the acceleration thrust is straightforward and without a dip in power, and is well calibrated thanks to a 5-speed manual gearbox (also refurbished) that is easy to drive. In terms of the chassis, the running gear has been completely reworked.
EXTERIOR
From the outside, this 'short chassis' or rather short wheelbase version is recognisable by the torsion bar flap almost touching the wheel arches. Apart from that, the look of the famous coupé remains unchanged: there are no ostentatious aerodynamic appendages to detract from the deep black lines. The traditional 5-spoke Fuchs wheels are in good condition and there are no defects in the underbody, where the floorboards have been restored and protected.
INTERIOR
The all-black cabin is in very good condition and is finished to a very high standard. The standard comfort seats are very supportive and have no cracks, holes or scratches. The rear bench is also free from signs of wear. The driving position is optimal, and the gear lever is easy to reach, with the large-spoke steering wheel in untreated wood adding a magnificent patina to the cabin. The black felt roof lining is in perfect condition. The black plastics on the dashboard and console are undamaged and crack-free. The black-backed instrument panel, in the Porsche style, is in perfect working order and offers excellent visibility thanks to the slim steering wheel, while the period radio blends in perfectly with the dashboard.
CONSUMABLES
The tyres currently fitted are 2022 Vredestein Classic 195/65 R15s in mint condition. The braking system is in mint condition.
