The new six-cylinder 911, conceived as the successor to the much-loved four-cylinder 356, was unveiled at the Frankfurt Auto Show (as the 901) in the fall of 1963, and it went into series production one year later. However, Peugeot raised objections to the name, claiming rights to all three-digit car names with a zero in the middle (at least in France, an important market for any European manufacturer). With the simple change of a number, the fabled “911” was born. It remains, after over 50 years, one of the purest and longest-lasting automotive designs in history.
The magnificent 1965 Porsche 911 Sunroof Coupe featured here is finished in stunning Polo Red over Black leatherette and is fitted with nearly every available factory option, including a highly-desirable factory sunroof. This incredible motorcar has had just two meticulous owners from new and is among one of the best examples you will find on the market today. Chassis number 302946 was built in November 1965 and delivered to its first owner via the Porsche European Delivery program on November 26, 1965. Its second and thus-far final owner took over its care in 1972. During this time, 302946 was restored over a three-year period by a marque specialist and is now ready to be shown or driven by what will be only its third owner in nearly sixty years. In speaking with the second owner, I was made aware that the original owner, who is now 91 years of age, is still around and going strong.
This is an incredible opportunity to acquire a fully documented, investment-grade early 1965 Porsche 911 Sunroof Coupe that checks all the boxes! Matching numbers engine, known history from new, highly optioned, and beautifully restored. I personally believe the investment potential of this early Porsche 911 will grow beyond your imagination. Offered to the most demanding collector, investor, or enthusiast who will settle for nothing but the best!
