Description

To Be OFFERED AT AUCTION at RM Sothebys' Arizona event, 24 January 2025.

  • One of 145 factory-built 1988 Turbo Flat-Nose Coupes for North America
  • Factory finished in Guards Red over a “Sonderwunsch” blended interior of Can Can Red and Black leather
  • Displayed less than 5,300 miles at cataloguing time
  • Documented ownership history from new
  • Accompanied by Porsche correspondence confirming its exclusive production

In the mid-1980s, Porsche’s Special Wishes or Sonderwunsch division began crafting bespoke Flachbau “flat-nose” conversions for the 911 SC and Turbo, inspired by the legendary 935 racecar. These striking modifications, which included wide-body fenders, louvered front panels, and the relocation of its iconic headlights, imbued the 911 with a more aggressive, track-ready persona. The labor-intensive, hand-finished work nearly doubled the cost of a standard 911 Turbo, with only 145 US-spec examples produced in 1988, cementing the Flat-Nose as one of Porsche’s rarest and most coveted models.

Chassis 50664 is an extraordinary example of Porsche’s bespoke craftsmanship. Finished in vivid Guards Red with matching Fuchs wheel centers, it boasts an array of exclusive options, including a limited-slip differential, power sunroof, alarm system, Blaupunkt Reno SQR 46 radio, power sport seats, and a velour-lined luggage compartment. Inside, the cabin is a symphony of special-order Can Can Red and Black leather, lavishly covering every conceivable surface—from the steering wheel with Porsche crested horn button to the console, brake lever, door panels, and even the seatbelt locks and whips, each stitched in supple Can Can Red hides.

Delivered through Autoplaza of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in July 1988, this Flat-Nose is believed to have been cherished by just three owners from new and displayed less than 5,300 miles on the odometer at cataloguing time. In November 2024, the consignor commissioned an extensive service by Exoticars Workshop of Wexford, Pennsylvania. The documented work includes an oil change and brake-system service along with new Pirelli tires, transmission side-gear gasket, front and rear lid struts, and engine insulation.

Well-documented and stunningly specified, chassis 50664 stands as one of the most unique and pristine 911 Turbo Flat-Nose Coupes on American shores—a true gem.
