Description
Chassis No. WP0CB2963RS465352
Engine No. 62P06008
Announced in October 1992, the third-generation Speedster paid homage to its celebrated open-top ancestor, the Porsche 356 Speedster of 1954-1959, through its distinctive truncated windscreen and streamlined silhouette. Built upon the venerable 964 platform, the Speedster was powered by a 3.6-liter air-cooled flat-six engine, producing 247 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. Power was transmitted to the rear wheels via a G50 five-speed transaxle, enhanced by an advanced onboard computer, striking 17-inch staggered alloy wheels, and an optional limited-slip differential.
A significant step above its predecessor, the 964-generation Speedster positioned itself between the Carrera S2 cabriolet and the track-oriented Carrera RS. Despite initial plans for a production run of 3,000 units, only 936 examples were manufactured by the conclusion of production in 1994. This model marked the long-term absence of the Speedster nameplate from the 911 range, until its recent revival as part of Porsche's "Exclusive" program of limited-edition models.
This exceptional 1994 Porsche 911 Speedster is one of only 409 examples delivered to the United States. The original purchase invoice shows that the car was originally purchased via Champion Motors in Pompano Beach, Florida on 11 August 1993. The Speedster was specified with desirable options including Paint to Sample Metallic Polar Silver paintwork, Silver-painted Cup wheels, air conditioning with full climate control, and Recaro's fantastic fixed-back Pole Position seats with grey/silver tri-color inserts. The Speedster's first owner, a Canadian enthusiast, relocated the car to his residence in Ontario shortly after taking delivery. Used sparingly over the following decade, the odometer showed a mere 7,090 miles by July 2004, testament to its careful preservation. In October 2008, with just 12,506 miles recorded, the Speedster changed hands and crossed back into the United States, finding a new home in Belvidere, Illinois. The new custodian, recognizing the Speedster's significance, continued to preserve it in mostly static condition as a benchmark example of the model.
Recently acquired by the consignor, this rare 964 variant was subsequently treated to a thorough servicing at Canepa in Scotts Valley, California. Upon arrival, the Porsche underwent over 100 hours of meticulous mechanical and cosmetic attention, ensuring it is in excellent mechanical order and visually prepared to grace any PCA concours event. Furthermore, recent paint meter readings indicate that the Speedster appears to retain the majority of its factory Polar Silver Metallic finish.
Accompanying the Speedster is a Porsche-issued Certificate of Authenticity, the original window sticker, owner's manuals, tools, and tire inflator. This Speedster presents an increasingly rare opportunity to acquire a low-mileage, matching-numbers example of one of Porsche's most sought-after limited-production models. Its combination of a Paint to Sample color scheme, exceptional preservation, and raw driving experience makes it a standout offering for the most discerning Porsche enthusiast or collector.
