Description
"The Porsche 964 was designed by Benjamin Dimson in 1986 and manufactured between 1989 and 1994. It featured significant styling revisions over previous 911 models and was considered to be 85% new when compared to its predecessor. The 964 Carrera boasted a new naturally aspirated engine called the M64 with a flat-six, 3.6 litre engine with power steering and ABS brakes added for the very first time. Exterior bumpers and fog lamps became flush into the car allowing for better aerodynamics and a new electric rear spoiler raised at speeds above 50mph. Revised instrumentation featured a large set of warning lights that were tied into the car's central warning system, also adding to the sense of Porsche’s legendary reliability. The road going Targa was equipped with a removable roof panel and plastic rear window, with a fixed glass version available from 1968, offering the best of open top motoring.
This fabulous Carrera 2 Tiptronic is fitted with turbo style wheels and is finished in Slate Grey with grey leather interior. When Porsche launched the 964, unfavourable financial times resulted in difficult sales. These C16 righthand drive examples are extremely rare, this being one of only 350 manufactured. New coil sprung suspension, anti-lock brakes and power steering offered a significantly modern driving experience over the outgoing Carrera, whilst performance was brisk too with 0-60mph coming up in 5.7 seconds and a top speed of 162mph, figures that are still respectable today. A 2wd variant would follow later and the 964 series ran until 1993 when the replacement 993 was launched. These classic looking 911’s being the last to feature the upright headlamps are effortless to drive, this is a truly classy example of a motoring icon."
