The replacement for the unloved 996, the Type 997 Porsche 911 was introduced in the market in 2004, but it was only in 2006 that the Targa 4S version made its appearance in the range. The Zuffenhausen firm offered a 4S version which was more accomplished than the 996; its light alloy 3.8-litre flat-six developed 355 bhp at 6600 rpm and torque of 400 Nm. The flat-six was mated to a six-speed manual transmission or a Tiptronic gearbox and drive was to all four wheels. The standard equipment was generous and the interior still stands out for its exceptional appearance and quality of finish. The 997 Targa 4S is heavy, tipping the scales at 1.6 tonnes, but its design makes it look almost slender compared with its competitors, to the point where it is a truly versatile car suited to everyday use and is genuinely easy to drive.
Sold new by the Porsche dealership in Geneva on 12 November 2007, this model joined Jean Brandenburg’s collection in April 2009. It is therefore a two-owner car with just over 53,000 km (33,000 miles) recorded today. Brandenburg liked to drive it to the circuits near Switzerland where he took part in historic races. Fitted with the M97/01 engine, mated to a Tiptronic automatic transmission, it is an easy car to control, proving highly effective yet remaining very manageable when the driver ups the pace. Specially finished in metallic GT Silver (LM7Z), with an interior which combines leather and alcantara and fitted with Carrera Classic alloy wheels, this 911 is a perfect blend of discretion, elegance and sportiness. It is fitted with numerous options, including the five-speed Tiptronic transmission (249), rain sensors (268), heated seats (342) and the multi-function steering wheel in smooth leather (431). Always maintained at the Porsche Centre in Geneva, the service and warranty booklet is fully stamped up. In good running order and last serviced in July 2018 (minor service), a service should nevertheless be carried out soon to comply with the manufacturer’s recommendations.
