The Type 993 Porsche 911 Turbo S provided a dramatic and fitting final chapter for Porsche’s air-cooled era. A true limited-production model, only 183 examples were manufactured for North America, each carefully and uniquely prepared by Porsche’s Exclusive department with bespoke features and numerous engine and chassis upgrades. Powered by a 3.6-liter flat-six engine featuring an alloy crankcase and cylinder heads, the Turbo S received larger twin KKK K24 turbochargers over the standard Turbo, a new Bosch Motronic engine-management system modified to handle the additional output, and a secondary oil cooler for improved heat dissipation. The result was nearly instant throttle response and a quoted 424 horsepower at 6,250 rpm for the US market.

Many of the 993 Turbo’s technical advancements were adapted from the legendary 959, with electronically controlled all-wheel drive—a first for the Porsche Turbo model, being the most notable. Combined with larger cross-drilled, multi-piston, ventilated disc brakes, the Turbo S takes the regular 993 Turbo’s performance and dramatically improves it. Discrete air ducts near the fog lamps on the front valance and on the rear fenders above the wheels are telltales of a Turbo; the Turbo S further stands out with Yellow brake calipers, a new “Aerokit Turbo II” front end, and an enlarged twin-blade fixed rear wing with integrated vents feeding air to the intercooler. The wide-body design helped accommodate larger 18-inch alloy wheels, while the engine sang through four exhaust pipes. All of this along with an upgraded six-speed manual transaxle helped the Turbo S achieve 0–60 in 4.2 seconds and a top speed of 184 mph.

Exhilarating performance, one-year, US-only production status, advanced 959-derived engineering, bespoke features, and assembly by Porsche Exclusive with upgraded factory components throughout, the Turbo S came together in one definitive sports car that only select few Porsche enthusiasts could acquire in 1997. The serious collector seeking an exceptionally uncommon, elegant, and powerful turbocharged, all-wheel-drive Porsche could do no better than this fine example, the final evolution of Porsche’s air-cooled tradition, heralding an end to what many aficionados consider the 911’s greatest era.

The magnificent 1997 Porsche 911 Turbo S coupe featured here is finished in rare and highly desirable Dark Ocean Blue Metallic over Cashmere Tan leather with optional deviated Dark Blue elements including the dashboard, door caps, and carpets. Delivered new on March 8, 1997, to its first owner in Austin, Texas, this 911 Turbo S remained in his care until 2015 when it joined a world-class collection. Through extensive research, we’ve concluded this is one of the most highly optioned Porsche 911 Turbo S produced, with many bespoke, “Sonderwunsch” (special wish), options – making this the perfect Porsche to add to any premier collection. I personally believe the investment potential of this extraordinarily rare and desirable car will grow beyond your imagination. We proudly offer this exceptional vehicle to the most demanding collector, investor, or enthusiast who desires to own the very best!
