Description
OVERVIEW
After nearly 30 years, the 993 generation Porsche 911 has evolved to become one of the most sought-after models in the 911 legacy. As the last of the air-cooled 911s, the 993 represents the most advanced iteration of the first 911 – the one that started it all more than 60 years ago. With the 993, all the characteristic traits of the original air-cooled, manual transmission 911 are unified with the finest in modern technology. Built in a range of models, the Targa variant was an important design exploration in this series offering a smooth, fixed roof design featuring a panoramic Targa glass and retractable sunshade – making the Targa unique and desirable within the now coveted 992 series.
Poised and powerful, the 993 incorporated sophisticated multilink rear suspension and enlarged rear tires resulting in fantastic handling, while the twin plug 3.6 liter flat-6 delivered ample power on command with the flexibility to offer peak performance or everyday use. Capable of superb braking and impeccable driving manners, the sophisticated and high performing 993 captured the very essence of the original 911, helping the model become a true classic.
This Polar Silver over black leather 993 Targa has been a west coast car since new and under current ownership since 2020. Serviced regularly under current and prior ownership at Cantrell Motorsports, Bellevue WA and Aker’s Porsche, Seattle WA, this is an ideal example for the performance-minded enthusiast who will appreciate the tasteful upgrades selected for this car. In addition to being outfitted with leather trimmed Recaro “Pole Position” bucket seats, the rear seats have been removed for weight savings and the rear area finished with RS-style carpet. New Michelin tires have been fitted in December 2024 along with an engine oil and filter change, with the car now showing 77,700 miles on the odometer.
Further enhancing the performance objectives, a set of Bilstein PSS9 adjustable coil-over shocks have been installed along with twin stainless-steel performance mufflers. In 2016 the car was involved in a freeway exit ramp incident resulting in damage to portions of the front and rear of the car. Though exterior damage was limited to a few body panels, the prior owner elected to repair the car including a full glass-out respray in the original color. The Targa top assembly was also replaced using new parts from Porsche ($16k). Records dating back approximately 7 years note regular and interval services including fluids, AC recharge, gasket replacements, spark plugs, new drive belt, new distributor cap, and a new power steering pump.
Today, this Porsche presents in excellent condition, ideal for the performance-minded enthusiast who appreciated driving their cars as they were intended. The finish is quite nice overall though a few road chips are evident at the front of the car consistent with general use. The unique Targa roof design is smoothly integrated into the body lines with excellent fit and smooth operation – a feature not often found in these cars. The car wears a set of silver finished wheels in excellent condition accented by red brake calipers.
The black leather interior is in excellent condition including the Recaro leather seats which look very much at home in this series 911. The center console features an integrated CD player and radio while the desirable 6-speed gear shifter offers a legendary hallmark of Porsche performance cars. The dashboard, instruments, and center console are all in excellent condition including the various switches and controls. The rear seat has been removed and the rear area carpeted with RS Style carpet. The overall fit and finish of the interior is cohesive and well presented, exhibiting consistent finishes reflective of the indicated miles.
The engine compartment and trunk are visually consistent with the miles indicated. The front trunk area front carpet has been removed in the style of an RS outlaw and a front strut tie-bar has been fitted. The factory jack, tools, and spare tire all remain present. The air-cooled engine provides wonderful induction sounds through the stainless-steel exhaust, while the suspension retains the much lauded 911 character vastly improved by the upgraded Bilstein suspension which can be adjusted for a firm or softer ride.
This is a great opportunity to acquire a well maintained and handsomely optioned example of the rare 993 Targa, one of the final air-cooled 993s produced. This 993 Targa is accompanied by owner’s manuals and leather case, copies of service invoices from 2016 to present, and two keys. The car has a clean and clear WA title.
