Description
The 911 R was conceived because there was a sense in Porsche’s legendary Motorsport department that the idea of adding ever more grip via the use of additional downforce, stiffened suspension and wider tyres was not indefinitely extendable. In the GT3 RS, the department had developed an extraordinary track day machine, a car designed to ripple your cheeks under the massive lateral acceleration. It was able to develop and be set up in such a way as to extract not only optimal lap times, but also seriously challenge its driver. The 911 R is its alter ego, they are instead identical twins, dressed in different clothes brought up to excel at different things, and while the RS’s domain was the circuit, the R was the road.
The differences are crucial, and every one of them designed to trade fast for fun. The biggest is the gearbox where a six-speed manual gearbox replaced the seven speed PDK one. An option available was to have the car fitted with a single mass flywheel, this allows the revs to rise and fall more quickly and better dampened engine vibrations. The R used the bodyshell from the GT3 but with the added GT3 RS double-bubble magnesium roof, a carbon fibre bonnet and some bespoke carbon fibre front wings. There was just a normal Carrera rear wing whose only modification was to extended as little further so to offer a little bit more downforce at high speeds. Underneath a largely flat floor and rear diffuser lead to its titanium exhaust. The 911 R was fitted with carbon ceramic brakes as standard, even GT3 RS customers had to pay extra for these.
The interior is fitted with fixed-back carbon shelled bucket seats that are trimmed in leather with retro hound’s tooth fabric and a leather steering wheel as appose to the alcantara version. There were no rear seats and the RS’s roll cage was also removed making this the lightest 911 (991), at 1,370 kg it was 50 kg lighter than the GT3.
This 911 R is one of the 72 UK RHD cars made and is number 120 of 991. Specified with the green stripes, green dials and silver wheels this fantastic example has been well cared for with full Porsche service history and an extended warranty until September 2026 has only covered 2,700 miles. The options for this include a single-mass flywheel, cruise control, front axel lifting system, two-zone automatic climate control, passenger footwell storage net, smoking package, HomeLink (garage door opener), light design package, Sport Chrono package incl: Porsche Track Precision App and prep for lap trigger, telephone module, Bose surround system, digital radio, automatically dimming mirrors with integrated rain sensor, Porsche communication management (PCM) including navigation module, Bi-Xenon headlights in black incl: Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS) and illuminated carbon fibre door sills.
This car also has been signed by Andreas Preuninger who was the Head of Porsche Motorsport with the message ‘ Congrats, you got yourself the best 911 eveR! ‘
