Description

Porsche’s 911 has long been the yardstick against which to measure any remotely competitive sports car. Porsche’s obstinate desire to stick with a layout that leaves the engine hanging behind the rear axle results in a unique driving experience. From the floor-hinged pedals to the precise steering, the 911’s driving feel is instantly recognisable.

The 964 was a major evolution for the 911 when it arrived in 1989. While retaining the unmistakable silhouette of the G-Series cars, 85% of its components were new. Beneath the surface, innovation was rife for the new Carrera 4 model, Porsche fitted an all-wheel drive system to a 911 for the first time. The technology, borrowed from the famed 959, electronically controls the car’s dynamics to ensure ultimate stability.

This particular car, first registered in November 1992, is a Carrera 4 Cabriolet, combining the classic 911 experience with open-top thrills. Finished in solid black with a recently replaced black convertible top, the paintwork has just been professionally detailed, which accentuates the 911’s curvaceous body lines beautifully.

The Fuchs-style wheels finished with black centres and silver lips, are wrapped in a set of Michelin Pilot Sport tyres, adding a nod to Porsche’s historic design heritage. At the rear, the decklid features a custom grille inspired by the Perspex panels seen on some Singer 911s, adding some individuality to the car.

The interior is particularly nice, the factory seats remain but they have been retrimmed with black leather and houndstooth, a further nod like the wheels to earlier Porsches. The in-car entertainment to has been upgraded, utilising a Porsche PCCM system that blends an original look with a 3.5” touch screen display, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth and DAB+ audio.

Under the decklid, is a 3.6-litre air-cooled flat-six, it produces around 250bhp and 230 lb-ft of torque, mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The aforementioned all-wheel drive system results in a car capable of using all of its power, whenever required. The car has consistently been maintained to an excellent standard and has been beloved by passionate enthusiastic owners.

The engine was rebuilt in 2005 by Porsche specialists Weston Porsche Service. The work which was completed to Porsche’s exacting standards included a replacement timing chain, big end bearings and an assortment of gaskets and seals.
