The long-awaited successor to the "G-Series" Porsche 911 debuted in 1989 in four-wheel-drive Carrera 4 form, wearing new sculpted bumpers and Porsche declaring it "85 percent new." Offered in three different body styles (Coupe, Targa, and Cabriolet) and in rear-wheel-drive configuration by 1990, the highly desirable open-topped Carrera 4 Cabriolet was the costliest, retailing for just over $80,000. All normally-aspirated 911s featured Porsche's world-famous 3.6-liter flat six. With its smooth, steady power delivery and raspy engine note, it produced a healthy 247 horsepower and 229 lb-ft of torque. Naturally, the automotive press was enamored with its superior tractability, with Car and Driver writing "Overall, the Carrera 4 possesses the kind of near-supernatural stability first shown by the 959, allowing you to drive fantastically hard without feeling like you're flirting with disaster."
This exceptionally well-preserved U.S.-market 1991 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 Cabriolet was completed at the factory on 30 January 1991, finished in Black Metallic over a Black soft top and Light Grey leather interior. The car was equipped from the factory with a five-speed manual transmission, a radio with cassette player, amplifier system, and cruise control as documented by its digital Porsche Certificate of Authenticity. Furthermore, the car is noted to retain its original, matching-numbers engine and transmission corresponding with its CoA. The Cabriolet was initially delivered to Autohaus Fortense of Forsyth, Illinois, with a digital copy its original window sticker showing a sticker price when new of $83,576. The first owner would maintain the car for an impressive 16-year period until 2007, accumulating less than 15,000 miles while being regularly serviced.
The accompanying clean CARFAX Vehicle History Report indicates that the Porsche remained in Illinois under new ownership for over a decade, with subsequent registration in Pennsylvania and Nevada. Now offered with just 15,547 miles at the time of cataloging-fewer than 1,000 miles since its last maintenance booklet stamping in 2007-this Carrera 4 Cabriolet's wonderful preservation is evidenced by its pristine factory Black Metallic paintwork and beautifully preserved Light Grey hides. The car is also accompanied by its tool roll and air compressor.
