Some 25 years after its last victory, Peugeot returned to the Dakar Rally in 2015 with the new two-wheel-drive, diesel V-6 powered 2008 DKR model. Following a troubled debut, the Vélizy-based team regrouped to secure a dominant overall win in 2016 with Dakar legend Stéphane Peterhansel.
In 2017, Peugeot Sport unveiled the evolutionary 3008 DKR, which shared the same 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged engine as its predecessor, albeit fitted to a newly strengthened chassis. Boasting 340 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque, the 3008 DKR propelled Peterhansel to a seventh Dakar car crown from a remarkable 13 outings. Illustrious teammates Sébastien Loeb and Cyril Despres completed the podium, the latter driving chassis C22, which RM Sotheby’s is proud to offer here.
Acquired by Peugeot customer team PH Sport in mid-2017, C22 was subsequently driven by Khalid Al Qassimi, the Emirati securing the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge in 2017 and contesting Dakar in 2018 and 2022. In 2019 it was driven by Sébastien Loeb to 3rd overall in the Dakar Rally, a remarkable result for a non-Works team, and one which included four stage wins out of 10 held. Offered directly from PH Sport in freshly rebuilt state, C22 remains a technical tour de force and a car of considerable historical significance; its present availability is unlikely to be repeated in the foreseeable future.
