Having become the main sponsor of the famous Paris tennis tournament, Peugeot was entitled to use the name and image of Roland-Garros, while the tournament benefitted from the advertising clout of the car maker. So, in May 1989, on the eve of the start of the competition, the first series of the Roland-Garros version of the 205 was launched. Fitted with a 85 bhp 1.4 litre engine, the model boasted up-market equipment not normally found in this category of car (electric windows, white leather upholstery, exclusive fabrics, etc.) as well as exterior decoration and green paintwork. It was so successful that the model remained in the Peugeot catalogue until 1993. The 205 was the star model of the Peugeot range in the nineteen-eighties and enabled the company to overcome its financial difficulties. Today the GTI and open versions are bursting in on the classic car market.
The Peugeot 205 Roland-Garros cabriolet which we are presenting has only covered 69 247 km since she was first delivered on the 1st of June 1992 to her first owner on the outskirts of Paris. Consequently, she is in almost as-new condition. Bodywork, paint, upholstery and engine bay are in a nearly perfect state, as is the electric hood which operates as well as it did when it was new. A spare set of keys and the original, fully stamped service records come with the car. The timing belt was replaced in May 2018. It would be practically impossible to find another 205 Roland-Garros cabriolet in such superb condition. You should not miss this unrepeatable opportunity to acquire this model whose charm and image are intact.
