Description
With the addition of a six-cylinder model in 1937, for Packard’s 15th Series, the respected luxury car company was able to expand its market coverage, offering an automobile in every price range. Priced just $100 above comparable offerings from the Big Three, the 115-C brought the Packard nameplate within reach of the common man. The endeavor was deemed a success, with the 115-C accounting for over one-third of Packard’s sales that year.
The 115-C Convertible Coupe offered here was acquired by Mark Smith in 2007, from a Rhode Island-based seller and presents in tidy unrestored condition. According to its chassis plate, it was first delivered in White Plains, New York in June 1937. Smartly finished in black, it features a patinated black leather interior and sports a flexible, spoke steering wheel. A Texaco-branded oil change sticker in the doorjamb appears to date from around the 1960s and recorded the car’s mileage at just over 61,500 miles. At the time of cataloguing, the odometer showed less than 75,000 miles.
This junior-series, open Packard has a particularly sleek design with its sloping radiator shell, low-height windshield, and hidden spare. Seldom seen in such undisturbed condition, this 115-C Convertible Coupe represents an enticing opportunity.
