The Vauxhall VX220 and Opel Speedster is a sports car developed by the European subsidiary of General Motors in conjunction with Lotus and sold under the Opel and Vauxhall Motors brands between 2000 and 2005. The Speedster was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 1999, and was manufactured at the Lotus plant in Hethel, Norfolk, England. It shares the platform with the second generation Lotus Elise / Exige.
The Speedster has a rear mid-engined, rear-wheel drive, and a manual gearbox. The model is a Targa roof, that is to say a two-seater with a convertible body, it used an atmospheric 2.2 four-cylinder engine from General Motors. Specifically, it was the same that could be found in the Opel Astra with a coupe body of the time, a mechanic that produced 147 hp of power at 5,800 laps and 203 Nm of torque, available at 4,000 rpm. It is not much, but it must be borne in mind that its curb weight was 945 kilograms, which gives an excellent weight-to-power ratio, but it was not slow at all, rather the opposite, since it was capable of going from 0 to 100 km / h in 5.9 seconds and reaching a top speed of 217 km / h.
