Description
Before the Second World War Opel was the largest lorry producer in the German Reich. For the light lorries the term “Blitz” (lightning) was introduced towards the End of 1930. The lorries were available with three different wheelbases, with four- and six-cylinder engines and in several versions. Our example left the works on the 22nd of June 1936 and was first registered in Switzerland in July of the same year. According to the information available, the delivery lorry was first owned by a butchery but from 1952 was used by a mechanical workshop as a service vehicle and later as a tow-truck on dealer plates by a garage. In December 1978 the Blitz, by then in a rather desolate state, was taken over by an Opel garage owner and parked in storage until 2013. He finally took pity on the car and over the next two years completed a thorough restoration documented by photographs and other records. In October 2015 the task was finished and the Opel freshly MOT’d, needless to say with a veteran status! Since then, the delivery lorry was used as a promotional vehicle for the garage and also shown at several all oldtimer meets. Only around 100 kilometres have been covered since the completion of the restoration, and the beautiful Blitz still presents itself in very good condition and will be offered with the latest veteran MOT completed in March 2025.
