Nash debuted its Metropolitan in 1954. Designed by Pinin Farina and manufactured in England by Austin, the Metropolitan was the company’s postwar foray into the burgeoning market for smaller, more economical cars. In 1956, the Series III was launched and the already popular two-door sedan received a more powerful 1,500 cc engine and a sporty chrome slash which facilitated the iconic two-tone color scheme.

This Series III Metropolitan has undergone a ground-up, rotisserie restoration by Pebble Beach award-winning restorer Walt Johnsen. The exterior received the correct Coral Red and Snowberry White paint and the bumpers were re-chromed, while the interior was dressed in the appropriate houndstooth by Metropolitan upholstery specialist Shannon Crutcher. Wherever possible, original systems were preserved and reconditioned, including the radio, radiator, and heater. Other components were restored with reproduction or NOS parts. The engine, transmission, and brakes were rebuilt and the tires are exact replicas of the original whitewalls. All the glass is original and in excellent condition and the car’s presentation is spectacular.

Following restoration, this 1957 Metropolitan won both Best in Class and People’s Choice awards at the Forest Grove Concours d’Elegance in 2013. Additionally, at the Metropolitan Owners’ Club of North America meet in 2015, this charming Series III Metropolitan was certified as Concours Class Gold – becoming one of only five such recognized Metropolitans. Purchased in 2016 by the current owner for his wife, the car has minimal post-restoration miles as she deemed it “just too perfect to drive!”
