Description
The Mitsubishi Galant GTO first appeared in 1970 as a sporty hardtop coupe, designed with a strong influence from American muscle cars. Such a striking design in a compact car led to the Galant GTO being nicknamed the “Hip Up Coupe”.
The initial model was equipped with the so-called Saturn engine of the "4G32 type", but with the minor change in 1973, the 2,000cc "4G52 type" Astron engine was adopted for all models except the 1700SL, and the "GTO2000". In 1975 a new silent shaft was installed and the Astron 80 engine was quietened. It has two pairs of shafts built-in, but the horsepower etc. is that of the original Astron engine.
Although the production volume of the GTO was one-tenth that of the rival Toyota Celica at that time, it continued to be sold as Mitsubishi's most popular sports coupe until 1978. The styling is still loved by many fans.
This individual is a 1975 model called 2000GS, which stands for Grand Sports. Equipped with the 2,000cc "4G52" Astron 80 engine mentioned above, which boasts a maximum output of 125 horsepower, which is equivalent to the flagship model "GS-R".
Maintenance is required before the car will run, but the olive green body color that was characteristic of Mitsubishi’s sporty cars at that time does not show any noticeable fading, and the interior was kept in very good condition over time.
