Description
Chassis No. TA2678
Engine No. MPJG2947
The 1938 MG TA "Tickford" Drop Head Coupe by Salmons & Sons represents a graceful blend of luxury and sporting character, a departure from MG's tradition of small, lively roadsters. Introduced in 1936 as part of the larger MG TA series, the first of a line of T series MG cars that spanned two eras of pre- and postwar motoring, the Tickford model featured elegant convertible coachwork by Salmons & Sons, renowned for their innovative folding hood mechanism. Built as a refined alternative to MG's sporting-oriented cars, the TA Tickford featured a leather and walnut-trimmed interior and a fold-out windscreen for extra ventilation.
Featuring just 466 miles since a comprehensive restoration, this rare MG TA Tickford with Salmons & Sons Drop Head Coupe coachwork is finished in grey paint with a matching grey three-position canvas top with an oxblood side stripe. Sporting knock-off wire wheels brighten the exterior that features Lucas King of the Road headlamps and a front badge bar with its well-earned 1999 AACA National First Prize award and MG Club badging. The oxblood theme is carried into the interior with oxblood leather seats, door panels, and edge binding of its caramel-colored carpeting. Jaeger instruments are set within a wood dashboard carried across the tops of the front hinged doors. Since acquisition, MG TA chassis number TA2678, wearing EFY 221 English number plates, has been a rare coachbuilt example of one of MGs most sporting pre-war models. This most dignified of MGs is offered as a museum-kept example with AACA award winning provenance.
