Description
1959 MGA Twin Cam Roadster Race Car
Chassis# YD3 1430
Engine: 1600
Gearbox: 4-Speed Close Ratio
History: One of only 1295 left hand drive Twin Cam roadsters built from a total production of 2211 cars. This example is believed to have been raced at Riverside in 1959 and 1960. Later built into a competitive historic racing car that has competed at the Monterey Historic and Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion numerous times since 1990. Has old racing logbooks. A known ownership history.
Condition: Professionally restored for historic racing, first in the late 1980’s, during the ownership of Dick Daniels and under the expertise of Bill Schlossnagel. Then race prepared and maintained by each additional owner to a very high level. In the past few years, it has had a fresh complete repaint, engine service, brake service and in the past month, a new fuel cell, fire system and safety harness. It is in top condition, ready to enter into a historic race car class, entered into a car show, or go to the racetrack.
Description: Bill Schlossnagel built the twin cam four-cylinder engine with aluminum head with Weber carburetors, steel billet crankshaft Carello rods, high compression pistons and lightweight flywheel, producing 175 hp. Close ratio 4-speed gearbox. With a weight just under 1900 lbs. this MGA was very competitive, often beating more powerful cars. A great inexpensive entry in the historic races where it has done so well.
Of Note: SVRA Gold Medallion Certified. Racing logbooks back to 1991. Numerous race acceptances at RMMR, Monterey Historic, Wine Country, Coronado. Accepted by RMMR, CSRG, HMSA, SVRA and other clubs. Known ownership.
