Description
1933 MG K3 Re-creation.
Locally built in 1995 to very high standards.
Very unique marketing offering.
Inspired by organising a pair of original MG K3s from Australia to compete in the 1993 Mille Miglia retrospective, our enthusiast vendor took the subsequent decision to build his own K3 replica. Using contacts made in the British K3 fraternity, who had teamed up with the Aussies to replicate the four-car Mille Miglia team of 1933, our enthusiast owner arranged for a new replica K3 chassis to be built in England using the original plans. Well known UK expert Bob Jones was involved in the project too, sourcing some running gear from K sedans, including a 1440cc K motor which was bench tested to the original K3 specification. A Wilson Preselector gearbox was also found and restored too, before all the parts were shipped to Australia for the build to begin. Locally, a K1 rear end was sourced but changed to the K3 ratio, while the body was built from scratch by a friend at Bendigo Metco. By 1995 the K3 replica was complete and shortly after attended a Concours in Shepparton (Victoria), where it was displayed beside an original K3, with show attendees said to be unable to determine which was the original! The vehicle has been part of a single collection since 1995 and has been used sparingly which is reflective of it’s condition with only requirement maintenance in the 17 years since. Finished in British Racing Green, our K3 replica presents in outstanding condition throughout. Its paint work is in fine shape, as is all the chrome work, and the silver-painted wires. Inside, black leather covers the seats and side panels, all in excellent shape, while aluminium paneling covers the floor. Jaeger instruments feature in the replicated period dashboard, there is a fold-down full windscreen as well as a pair of aero screens, while mesh covers protect the large headlights. It’s a lovely thing, as near as you’ll get to a ‘new’ K3 and bound to create a great deal of excited interest among MG aficionados. Previously on Victorian club registration, the 1933 MG K3 Replica is being offered for sale here unregistered.
