The SLS marked AMG's evolution into its own sub-brand, and what better way to demonstrate the division's expertise in delivering unique, high-performance cars than with a spiritual successor to the marque's legendary grand tourer – the 300 SL. From launch, the SLS AMG had all the makings of a luxury grand tourer, with a front-mounted AMG-built V8, dual-clutch seven-speed trans­axle, leather-swathed cabin, and all the modern amenities expected of a Mercedes flagship.

In creating an open-topped variant – the 2011 SLS AMG Roadster – AMG elevated the already superb touring characteristics of the Coupe, with more livable conventional doors, unimpeded headroom, and an unrivaled burbling V8 soundtrack being fed directly into the cabin. The convertible roof mechanism only increased the curb weight by 88 pounds, which went unnoticed thanks to the 563 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque lying beneath the expansive hood. With a zero-to-60 time of just 3.6 seconds and clever amenities like AIRSCARF – a vent at the base of the headrest providing heating and ventilation – the Roadster retained the Coupe's breathtaking performance all while being an even more capable tourer.

This 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster is finished in an alluring color combination featuring an understated Obsidian Black exterior and Black fabric top over an Executive Red leather interior. Furthermore, this example was specified with a bevy of desirable options including the AMG ceramic high-performance compound brake system, matte-black-finished 10-spoke AMG forged wheels, interior and exterior AMG carbon-fiber trim packages, an eleven-speaker Bang & Olufsen BeoSound AMG sound system, an AMG performance steering wheel, and more.

According to the accompanying CARFAX Vehicle History Report, this highly specified example was registered to its first owner in December 2012 showing 53 miles at the time. Subsequent service entries indicate that the Roadster remained in Ohio with its original owner over the succeeding decade, receiving routine maintenance at Crown Eurocars in Dublin, Ohio and Mercedes Benz of Easton in Columbus, Ohio. In March of 2024, the report indicates a change of ownership to a related party yet the car has been in common ownership since new and is offered with just 1,985 miles at the time of cataloging. This low-mileage, investment-grade example would make a fabulous acquisition for any collector of modern GTs.
