Description
Developed in close collaboration with McLaren, the SLR played elbows with the Ferrari Enzo and the Porsche Carrera GT, a spectacular trio that gravitated to the top of the supercar dynasty in the 2000s. I can still remember the comparisons in the trade press, as automotive journalist seemed to be the coolest job in the world at the time!
The SLR looked great, performed amazingly well and had an impeccable finish, enabling it to attract a wide range of customers from Fernando Alonso and Kanye West to Paris Hilton. Of course, these three "celebrities" had in common a certain sense of showmanship but also a serious bank account allowing them to drive a supercar every day... There lay Gordon Murray's master stroke. What better way to tell us what the Silver Arrow of tomorrow means to him than to let him speak: "It was incredibly strong and rigid and I'm still very proud of the structure. It was the safest and stiffest car Mercedes had ever produced and it still is by far. In my career it is a significant car because it was designed for a major manufacturer who let us do everything. It's one I'm most proud of! (One Formula, GM)
With its air intakes, side tailpipes and butterfly doors, the SLR is a direct descendant of the legendary 300 SLR coupe created by Uhlenhaut in 1955. In every way, it expresses the sportiness and anticipates the future of Mercedes-Benz and McLaren's motorsport partnership.
The model we present was given as a birthday present by Hélène Pastor to her son Gildo Pastor-Pallenca in April 2007. Registered in Monaco, he kept it until 2011 before selling it to its second owner, Mr. Maurice Eustache, emblematic boss of the Radio Fréquence Plus group. With just over 13,000 km in 2014, its third and current owner took possession of it in October to replace his Ford GT, which he considered too spartan. At its wheel, Norway, Croatia, Italy, Switzerland and many other destinations were reached at unavowable speeds, all in the comfort worthy of a great GT. Regularly maintained at authorized dealerships, it will be given to its future owner with all its manuals and service book in French, its duplicate keys and of course the maintenance invoices. Fully serviced in December 2015 for over €14,000 in a Mercedes-approved garage (Stain), the car has since undergone the usual revisions in 2018 and even more recently with the change of two batteries and four tyres. With a total of 47,186 km on the odometer, this SLR is a credit to the reputation of its designers as its condition is beyond reproach.
Underestimated, the SLR is clearly a model not to be underestimated as it excels in all areas. The values of its competitors at the time have doubled and there is no doubt that the signature of the one we are presenting today will be one of its main assets tomorrow. You just need to know that to make the right choice before the others...
