Description
The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, introduced in 2004, showcased a blend of Mercedes-Benz's luxury and McLaren's racing prowess. As a modern Gran Turismo, it combined classic design elements with cutting-edge technology. Its long bonnet, sculpted body, and short rear echoed Mercedes sports car traditions, while the distinctive arrow-shaped nose and twin aerofoils, inspired by McLaren's Formula One cars, emphasized its performance pedigree.
The SLR McLaren featured gullwing doors modeled after the 1955 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé, updated for easier access. Inside, it boasted high-quality materials, including aluminum-trimmed components and "Silver Arrow" leather. The center console housed controls for the airbrake and driving modes.
Powered by a 626 horsepower V8 engine developed by Mercedes-AMG, the SLR McLaren could accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 334 km/h. Its five-speed automatic transmission offered various shift modes, while the lightweight carbon fiber composite construction and advanced aerodynamics ensured both high performance and safety. With 18-inch wheels as standard and optional 19-inch turbine-look wheels, the SLR McLaren blended performance and style in a unique package.
This SLR, finished in the striking Crystal Laurite Silver Metallic (977) with a luxurious Silver Arrow 300 SL Red semi-aniline leather interior, completed its largely hand-built production at the McLaren Technology Center in Surrey, England when the quality assurance certificate was written on 4 July 2005. The car was equipped with the "XL" seats, enhancing comfort for both driver and passenger with their larger size. Additional features include dual-zone climate control, Bi-Xenon headlights, a distinctive instrument cluster with blue-faced gauges, and prominent McLaren logos, all contributing to an exceptional driving experience.
The accompanying history file shows the car's first registration was issued on 15 August 2005 to its original owner in Germany. They kept the car for approximately 16 years, with the next owner keeping the car until 2022, leaving the car unregistered. Just over 30,000€ was spent on a comprehensive service on 10 July 2021 at Mercedes-Benz Berlin where the following was replaced: new fluids, tires, tire pressure sensors, power steering pump, spark plugs, belts, alignment, and an emissions test. The car was then purchased by the current owner with just over 10,000 kilometers and imported to Monaco in December 2022.
Today this spectacular example remains in wonderful condition with only just over 10,500 kilometers, or just over 6,500 miles, at the time of listing. As a result, this 2005 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren is a wonderful way to experience a modern rendition of the legendary Silver Arrows.
