Launched at the 1989 Geneva Motorshow, the R129-Series Mercedes-Benz were far more sporting than the outgoing W107-Series and incorporated a whole range of new technology. The fully automatic convertible roof, sophisticated multi-link suspension, ABS, and automatic roll-bar deployment were all major strides forward 29 years ago. At the top of the range sat the 500SL which was used to debut Mercedes-Benz' new 4-valves per cylinder technology. Coupled with twin overhead camshafts and variable valve timing, these 4973cc engines produced around 326bhp giving the car a top speed well in excess of 150mph and 0 - 60mph took just 6.3 seconds. The car was as refined as it was fast. 1994 brought a facelift to the R129 which included revisions to the headlights, rear lights, and automatic climate control. This was also the year when Mercedes changed their model naming strategy with the 'SL' now moved to the front of the number meaning the 500SL became the SL500.This particular right-hand drive Mercedes-Benz SL500 is finished in the delightful shade of Aqua Blue Metallic with a Mushroom leather interior and Burr Walnut trim. When it was ordered the options list was obviously well-ticked and the car is comprehensively equipped including an expensive panoramic roof and 18-inch AMG alloy wheels. It has been enjoyed by three former keepers and has only covered 55,000 miles from new.It comes with a comprehensive history file with many receipts and a service book with Mercedes main dealer stamps and has its original book pack with manuals and even the original supplying dealers number plates. This is a lovely original unmolested SL in a really pretty colour combination and is an excellent choice if you are looking for a future classic that's eminently usable, fun to drive, and hopefully, a decent investment.
