The Mercedes-Benz R107 and C107 models were manufactured from 1971 through to 1989 and were the longest running production models after the G-Class. They were sold under the SL and SLC model names as the 280 SL, 280 SLC, 300 SL, etc. up to the 560 SL. The R107 roadster has been described as one of the best-looking Mercedes-Benz cars produced to date. The larger, third generation SL, initially with just a 3.5-litre engine (350 SL) mated to four-speed automatic transmission. The car featured a two-door monocoque bodyshell with independent suspension all round, coil springs and anti-roll bar at the front, semi-trailing arms, coil springs and anti-roll bar at the rear. The power assisted steering was Daimler-Benz's own re-circulating ball system.
Ordered by Mr. Kevin Doyle of Edinburgh, this wonderful Signal Red with Tex-Palomino Cream interior has been cherished by every owner since. With 15 stamps in the original service book, (almost all of which are main agents), as well as four brake fluid services and three coolant services. Additionally, the supplied history file shows many invoices detailing work carried out on the car which notably include a new hood in 2014 and exhaust in 2021. The vendor has just had the car serviced prior to auction with the addition of having the front brake callipers and shock absorbers replaced coming to £3,535.73 in expenditure. During her ownership, the car has been serviced every year and even had the engine removed in 2023 to replace seals and gaskets along with having new head studs fitted, the work having stemmed from the discovery of an oil leak that had developed between the cylinder head gasket and front cover. Along with coming with almost every MoT test certificate since 1992, it is plain to see this handsome 300SL has been a cherished example.
Supplied with a current V5C registration document, original stamped service book and book pack, MoT test certificates dating back to 1992, many invoices and factory hardtop. Unusual to find a 300SL with such a good service history, this presents an opportunity not to be missed. Consigned by Will Penrose.
Interested parties should note that contrary to the catalogue description, this car is a 1986 model and not 1988 as stated
