Description
"Launched in late 1985, the 560 SL convertible/coupé was the latest in Mercedes-Benz's long and much-loved line of luxury sports cars that could trace its lineage back to the 230 SL of 1963. In the 560 SL's case its Type 107 bodyshell had debuted on the 350 SL (introduced in 1970) and this timeless style would continue in production for another five years. The 560 SL was powered by a 5.5-litre, overhead-camshaft V8 engine producing 227bhp, an output good enough for a top speed of 220km/h with 100km/h reachable in around eight seconds. There were improvements to the running gear in the form of anti-dive/anti-squat rear suspension, a limited-slip differential and revised steering geometry.
This well presented 1986 Mercedes-Benz 560 SL is showing just 59,800 on the odometer and has been dry stored for a number of years, having had just two owners from new, and has lived the majority of its life in the dry state of California.
Offered in one of the rarest and most sought-after colour combinations of Diamond Blue metallic coachwork over a grey leather interior the Mercedes is equipped with hardtop and its manually operated soft top. The interior is in largely original condition although the front seats have had new leather covers fitted. The air conditioning has been replaced and the Becker AM/FM radio has been reconditioned and is in perfect working order. Also fitted are electric power windows, and cruise control.
The coachwork has more recently been treated to a respray and looks superb as does the chromework. The front brake calipers have also been reconditioned and new discs and pads fitted.
Offered with a sizeable history file including its Mercedes-Benz service book, as well as two original keys and the original purchase invoice from Mercedes. Also included is a current MoT test certificate and a UK registration document. Thousands of pounds have been spent on this example in the last year or so and as such it is now ready to be enjoyed. Low mileage examples make a great investment, and this example is no exception."
