Description

"The iconic R107 Mercedes-Benz SL Roadster and SLC Coupé became so successful in the 1970's and 80's that it became their second longest production run surpassed only by the G class 4x4. Originally introduced in 1971 in 350 SL guise with a 3.5 litre V8 engine, it spawned some eight further engine derivatives and numerous options to extend the customers’ desire for the wonderful roadster until 1989. While the C107 or SLC enjoyed a brief but relatively successful stint in rallying, the Roadster was always intended for luxurious top down motoring and as such, attracted celebrity ownership and a host of film and television appearances. Offering 197bhp and a smooth automatic gearbox with a top speed in excess of 130mph, imagine cruising along French boulevards or through Beverley Hills and you will understand the target audience for this iconic SL Roadster. This example is presented in Thistle Green with Green Mercedes-Benz check interior. The car was owned by the present vendor’s neighbour who stored it in his garage and started it regularly. He seldom used the car and apparently it was his much loved and cared for car that he had promised himself.Unfortunately, he died, and the present owner bought LIJ 850 from his widow on or about 1st August 2019. The car had already been in the care of a Mercedes-Benz specialist near Chichester and he took the car to them with instructions to do what was necessary to recommission the car effectively, use original MB parts as necessary so as to maintain its originality in good condition and enable it to be enjoyed and used as a dry day runabout. The recommissioning carried out included the following works and an MoT test certificate obtained in late 2019:A full service, engine tune up including replacement of all plugs, oil/air filters of the engine and check-up for the transmission with all new fluids / filters. A full check-up, testing and brake fluid replacement of the already refurbished brake system.A full check-up and clean out of the whole fuel system including a brand-new petrol tank and such other parts as needed. An inspection of the bulkhead which the vendor was advised did not require attention. New sills were put on with instructions to use MB parts. They could have been left but he wanted that done. The whole engine bay was cleaned and all piping and engine ancillaries were cleaned and checked. All electrics were checked and a thorough clean and polish carried out throughout the whole car.The tyres were and are nearly new. The car is now registered as a Historic vehicle at DVLA so no tax or MoT test certificate is necessary. It has been stored in a garage whilst in the present owner’s ownership as well. In essence, the car was ready to go at the end of the work and then of course came COVID. The interior is wholly original and in excellent condition, the bodywork is in Thistle Green with a contrasting darker green hardtop which looks great with the original Mexican hat wheels. The engine and gearbox run very smoothly, and the car is a delight to drive. The car showed 79,995 when he bought it, and the mileage is now 80075. This is a wonderful car and will provide fun and enjoyable motoring for many years to come for the next owner.
