Description

"The Mercedes-Benz SL (Sport Leicht) has been in production since 1954 with perhaps the most influential model being the W113 Pagoda of 1963. This second generation evolved from the 230 SL to 250 SL, finally becoming the 280 SL. The W113 was replaced by the W107 in 1971 and as the engines became larger, the bodywork and weight of the cars also increased, as so often happens in mid-life! The SL improved through the years with technical innovation but still managed to keep its fundamental character and identity of an up-market, high quality sports car. Its reputation went from strength to strength and it was rare to see an episode of Dallas or Dynasty in the 1980's without an SL making a star appearance. The genius soft-top mechanism which folds down out of sight under a panel ahead of the boot lid gave the car a beautifully sleek, uncluttered appearance. Of all the engine offerings the 280 remains the most sought after with the smaller 2.8 litre engine offering plenty of power but with the advantage of less weight and improved handling.
This very good Mercedes-Benz 280 SL Roadster was supplied new in the UK in May 1984. It is presented in Lapis Blue metallic with matching factory hard top, navy blue soft top and complemented with navy check sports cloth interior. This 280 SL comes with a good service history with fifteen stamps to the original service book with 90% of them being carried out at Mercedes-Benz main agents. The last major service was carried out at 89,000 miles in May 2014 with the last small service and check over in May 2018. Also, in the service history are all the old MoT certificates dating back to 1991 at 54,000 miles. This Mercedes is supplied with a V5C registration document, an MoT test certificate which expires in April 2019 and a wind defector. This example is a rare find, ready for the summer and hours of motoring enjoyment. With many similar models on offer at double the price, this is a potential good investment for the future."
