In March 1963 the new generation of SL sports cars from Mercedes Benz was launched with the debut of the 230SL at the Geneva show. This revolutionary new model replaced the now ageing 190 and 300SL models. Mercedes engineering, together with elegance and practicality, made the pagoda top SL one of the most distinctive designs of its era. In closed form it offered handsome proportions and coupe-like comfort, whilst the easy removal of the hard top turned it into an open sports car for the summer months. The 280SL is regarded as the most superior of this line of evolution, featuring a greater power output, 180 bhp and with a more compliant ride quality. In addition to this the 280SL had vacuum assisted four wheel disc brakes and a more luxuriously appointed interior. Finished in white this particular example is described as being in good to excellent condition throughout and is a true representative of luxury
