Description

The elegant styling and undeniable appeal of the Mercedes-Benz 230 SL “Pagoda” made the German two-seater popular at the time of its first availability in the 1960s, and its long-lasting charm has sustained demand as a coveted collector car since then. First introduced in 1963 as the 230 SL, the new-generation W113 Mercedes-Benz roadster was designed by Paul Braq. The model earned its Pagoda nickname thanks to the distinctive concave removeable hardtop. The W113 established the blueprint for nearly all future SL models, combining luxurious trimmings, impeccably sophisticated style, and engineering excellence in a motorcar meant to deliver its occupants safely, rapidly, and in unrivaled comfort and style.
The series’ introductory 230 SL model featured a 2.3-liter inline six-cylinder engine equipped with fuel injection. Its four-speed automatic transmission had a rear-axle ratio perfect for comfortable, high-speed cruising. In total, Mercedes-Benz produced nearly 20,000 examples between March 1963 and January 1967.

This particular 230SL started its life in the United states like so many others. However, It returned to the continent where it received a restoration and during this process it was lovingly altered to the European style headlights and the side markers where removed. The largest alteration however was done under the bonnet. The original engine was replaced by a more powerful engine from de 280SL. The automatic gearbox and higher torque of the 280SL give the car an even smoother ride than its original configuration, whilst retaining the now so loved driveability of the Pagode.

In a later stage the interior was reupholstered and restored by renowned specialists in The Netherlands. The quality is not only visible but also the lovely scent of fresh quality leather is still very much present in this timeless classic roadster.

We would love to take you on a test-drive in the beauty so we can tell you much more about this timeless peace of German engineering
