Description

Full service history
5.6 liter v8
Delivered new in Germany

As with the superseded W116 range, 'S-Class' was an abbreviation for Sonderklasse (Special Class). Launched at the Frankfurt Auto Show in 1985, the 560 SEC coupé was an addition to the W126 line-up and the most powerful of the three luxury coupés then on offer. This new model retained the existing bodyshell virtually unchanged but was powered by the new 5,547cc version of the M117 all-alloy V8 engine producing 300bhp (DIN). The 5½-litre engine was also used for Mercedes-Benz's luxury flagship, the 560 SEL saloon, though customers resident in the USA had to make do with considerably less powerful versions of both models. If the W126 S Class was the peak of automotive experience in it’s day, then the 560 SEC Coupe was the fluttering flag sitting proudly atop the peak. With a price before options* of €63,200, the 560SEC was one of the most expensive motorcars one could buy. For a little context, a Ferrari Testarossa had a new price of €62,666.
Our 1991 Mercedes-Benz 560 SEC was originally delivered new in Düsseldorf by Mercedes-Benz AG NDL Düsseldorf Branch. This sought-after facelift version is equipped with the formidable 300hp M117 V8 engine, one of Mercedes’ most celebrated powerplants. Notably, this example hails from the final production year, marking the end not only of the 560 SEC but of the entire W126 series.

Always rarer than its sedan counterpart, the SEC represents the pinnacle of S-Class luxury with its elegant two-door, pillarless design—combined with the most powerful engine ever installed in the W126 lineup. These cars were built to the highest standards of craftsmanship, and this particular example undeniably proves it. Originally specified by its first German owner, the car was tastefully configured in Blue-Black Metallic paired with a stunning full gray leather interior. It was also equipped with several desirable options, including Sliding roof, roller blinds and heated seats. Today, the car remains in excellent condition, a testament to its meticulous care and maintenance. From new to the present day, the complete service history has been dutifully documented and stamped in the accompanying maintenance booklet.

The fact that this car has always been meticulously and lovingly maintained is immediately evident in its current condition. First and foremost, the car benefits from the exceptionally rare and highly sought-after AMG Aero III wheels, valued at €5,000 - €6,000 when new. An absolute added value! These wheels are still in absolute mint condition, just like the rest of the car Take, for instance, the wood trim in the interior—it remains in flawless condition, with no signs of lacquer peeling or discoloration. The same goes for the seats: the leather, which often shows wear from getting in and out, looks as pristine as the day it was made, free of cracks or deep scratches. Even the dashboard is perfectly straight, with no signs of dryness or cracking But it’s not just the interior that remains in pristine, like-new condition; the excellence of this car extends to the smallest details. The original tool roll and jack are still present, along with the untouched spare wheel and first aid kit. Even when you remove the spare wheel, the floor beneath is entirely free of rust. This is German engineering quality at its absolute finest!
