Mercedes 280 SE 3.5 V8 Cabriolet 1971 200CV ... This version was quite exclusive as it was equipped with a 3.5 V8 engine and only around 1,200 examples were produced. This Grand Tourer Cabriolet was presented to the public for the first time at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1969. The Stuttgart-based company announced the 280SE V8 as one of the fastest 4-seater cabriolets in the world.’ The magazine of the time described the model as ‘Elegant - powerful - luxurious’. Certainly one of the most iconic German models of the 1970s. The luxurious features of the top of the range Mercedes, with prominent buttons and dashboard. They were equipped with an exclusive range of equipment to provide a high level of luxury, comfort and safety, including power steering, 4-wheel disc brakes, full leather seats, electric windows and a radio aerial.
Mechanically, this specimen is powered by a 3.5 litre V8 engine with 200 hp, capable of reaching a top speed of close to 220 km/h. It was sold and delivered new in the USA and was acquired by the Governor of Hawaii. Shortly afterwards, it was acquired by the famous pop singer and actress ‘Cher’ and remained in her family until 1997, when it was sold to one of the largest Mercedes collections in Europe at the time, the Rolf Meyer collection exhibited by the Schiffdorf museum, where it remained until it was sold at an auction of the same collection in 2003 in Paris and entered Portugal in 2003 by an enthusiast of the brand and in 2007 it was acquired by the collector, where it has remained ever since. It has been in the possession of the last owner for around 17 years and has all the Mercedes maintenance documentation with an impressive portfolio of invoices and documentation. It is presented in an elegant combination, with a ‘Dark Maroon 460’ exterior and a Beige interior.
