Description
"In keeping with many of the other Mercedes model series, the new CLK-Class in 2002 was able to bear the three letter mark of sporting prowess: AMG. The package promised superlative power delivery and outstanding handling as well as a list of equipment that positively exuded exclusivity. Topping the new CLK range was a V8 model that delivered performance on a par with a typical sports car; the CLK 55 AMG produced an impressive 367hp which could propel this stylish sports coupé to 60 mph in just 5.2 seconds. Further features that made the flagship CLK-Class sports model really stand out, included a special AMG body styling for the front apron, rear apron and side skirts. Not to mention the 18 inch AMG light-alloy wheels, the AMG exhaust system with twin tailpipes and the specially developed spoiler lip on the boot lid, which reduced the lift acting on the rear axle by over 50 percent.Every now and then one comes up for sale as do ‘Fabergé eggs’ but it’s not a very common occurrence and when it does happen it only lasts as long as a politician’s promise! These cars were only offered through Mercedes-Benz dealerships in 2002, right at the very end of the 208 CLK run which overlapped with the new incoming W209 coupé production. The CLK 55 AMG Cabriolet (208) is a rare car over here as there were only a few hundred built worldwide with most going to the USA. The rest remained in mainland Europe with only a handful ending up on our shores. It cost a staggering £70,000 in 2002 which helped to keep it exclusive to this day.We are delighted to be able to offer one of these rare ‘beasts’ which is presented in superb condition throughout and has only covered a mere 30,469 miles from new. It is in Brilliant Silver metallic with Birdseye Maple trim and Anthracite leather interior and black hood. The car comes with air conditioning, heated electric memory seats, parking sensors, electric mirrors, satellite navigation, in built Mercedes mobile phone (needs a sim card) and wind deflectors to the rear. We are also informed that the car comes with a full service history which is made up of 12 Mercedes-Benz stamps and two Mercedes-Benz specialist stamps. The history file also includes the original bill of sale, service receipts, old MoT test certificates, old road tax discs, two service books (stamped) and some press cuttings; one in particular from the Mercedes-Benz Owner’s Club, who waxed lyrical about this outstanding motor car. A rare, quick and extremely desirable stalwart from the German manufacturers."
