During the 1980s and early 1990s, Mercedes and AMG were completely independent entities, in 1993 when AMG and Mercedes signed a cooperation agreement for the joint development of vehicles. The first official Mercedes-AMG would be the C 36 AMG, a car that still retained the brash and defiant spirit of the independent AMG. The amalgamation of components and the powertrain of the Mercedes C 36 AMG are the physical proof of this statement. As the most powerful engine that could be fitted in the Mercedes C-Class W202 at the time was a 2.8-litre M104, AMG decided to take the 3.2-litre M104 engine found in cars such as the Mercedes SL 320 or E 320 as a starting point. They then machined each block by increasing the diameter of the combustion chambers and the stroke of the pistons: from 89.9 mm to 91 mm and from 84 mm to 92.4 mm respectively. The resulting engine displaced 3,606 cubic centimetres, developing a whopping 280 bhp at 5,750 rpm, with a massive 385 Nm of torque, constant between 4,000 rpm and 4,750 rpm. To support the increased torque, a modified crankshaft from an OM605 was used. A PEDIGREE SPORTS SALOON IN THE STYLE OF THE 90'S. *This advertisement is non-binding, may contain errors, is for information purposes only and is not contractual.
