Produced between 1951 and 1962, the 300 was then the brand's flagship. Mercedes made it evolve over four series, the ultimate evolution of which was the "d" version. The design was slightly modernized, with enlarged windows and a new design of the rear fenders, whilst its power increased from 125 to 160bhp thanks to Bosch mechanical injection. The four-speed manual gearbox was replaced by a standard three-speed automatic.
The car on offer is one of the 3073 "d" saloons produced and has a sliding sunroof. It was registered in Spain where it was unearthed in 2016 by the Mannes family, with a view to completing their collection. Its odometer, which displays 53,610 miles, seems to designate the USA as the first destination when it left the factory. Its engine was started when purchased, then the car was stored. In original condition and earlier repainted, it will need a comprehensive restoration, which it deserves, given the interest and the rarity of the model.
