Description

Launched in 1989, the Mercedes-Benz R129 SL was revolutionary. At a stroke, it banished the 1970s styling of its predecessor in favor of a modern shape penned by Bruno Sacco. The roadster was loaded with technology and performance, and remained in production for more than a decade.

In 2001, Mercedes-Benz commemorated the Silver Arrow competition cars of the 1930s with a Silver Arrow Edition SL. These examples were distinguished from the standard R129 by way of special silver metallic paint, two-tone silver and black leather upholstery, a brushed aluminum instrument cluster, and aluminum trim on the shift gate, pedals, and grille. Unique mechanical components included 18" wheels, factory-drilled brake rotors, and xenon headlights. Utilizing a five-liter M113 V-8 producing 302 hp, these last versions of the R129 SL platform possessed desirable attributes of driveability and reliability.

This SL500 Silver Arrow was acquired from its original owner in 2003 by Brumos Motor Cars for The Brumos Collection. Registering less than 13,000 miles from new, this example presents in excellent and highly original condition throughout, and was recently serviced by Mercedes-Benz of Jacksonville, Florida, where it also received new tires. Accompanied by its hardtop, books, keys, jack, and spare, as well as an unopened tool kit and wind deflector, this stylish Mercedes-Benz is well appointed with the amenities of a modern car, and is well suited for open-air touring.
